Textbooks are seen today by children as a burden, as compulsory, school-related task-books. But textbooks were never intended to become just added weight, they were intended to invoke the student’s creativity and imagination, and engage them in the process of learning.
The project Untextbook attempts to revive this idea in the textbooks of grades 1 through 8 for the CBSE curriculum. The idea here is to make these books come alive with visuals, colours, typography and layout design.
Initiated in collaboration with Katha Publishers, this project set about redesigning English literature textbooks, with culturally diverse content and vivid meaningful illustrations. They were revamped to promote better ideas, change perceptions, break stereotypes and bring forward the culture and heritage of India.
