Overview

The Animation pathway is envisioned to create technically competent individuals with a good understanding of the several processes of pre-production, production and post-production in the animation workflow. The course supports developing of ability to strategically intervene in the mechanisms of the industry thereby increasing the creative capacity of the animation industry of India. Students can choose to specialize in the different aspects of 2D or 3D animation processes. They can work towards becoming storyboard artists, 2D animators, motion graphic artists, character modelers, set modelers, texturing artists, lighting artists, riggers, line supervisors, character animators, 3D effects artists, or advanced character modelers.

Exit Criteria

YEAR 1

At the end of year 1 students will:

  • Acquire an understanding of basics of animation
  • Understand fundamentals of image making and of movement
  • Develop ability to use different aspects of pre-production with attention to narrative, character, scenario and technique using 2D animation software

YEAR 2

At the end of year 2 students will:

  • Gain technical expertise on 3D software
  • Understand several aspects of creating a 3D environment
  • Learn to apply structural and logical understanding in 3D animation techniques
  • Have a good grip on the construction of movement and technical and creative problem solving

YEAR 3

At the end of year 3 students will:

  • Be able to formulate and execute an animation project
  • Learn to apply investigative thinking and develop project managerial skills
