Production Design – Pathway for Digital Filmmaking

“Unlike all the other art forms, film is able to seize and render the passage of time, to stop it, almost to possess it in infinity. I'd say that film is the sculpting of time.” - Andrei Tarkovsky

The Production Design pathway would train students to engage in the craft and technique of designing for film and television through skill based exercises and real world projects. Production Design would entail identifying the visual treatment of the film by working closely with the director, cinematographer, costume designer, VFX expert and producer. The course would explore script analysis and breakup, understanding of materials, the need for research to situate and contextualize the design, costing, planning, budgeting and design realization. Critical studies would also situate spatial explorations by routing them to culture and architecture.
