“I don't think about art when I am working. I try to think about life.”
- Jean Michel Basquiat
Arts Practices offered at Srishti is intended for those seeking a professional career in the arts and the creative and cultural industries. Here, they can acquire skills, further develop their critical thinking abilities and begin to define the parameters of their own practice. This is enabled through specialist-led workshops, lectures, master classes, and hands-on making. The different specialisation tracks are created to provide direction and focus towards building a practice. We seek motivated candidates who are excited about experimenting, innovating and discovering their own voice and personal expression in film, animation, public art and curatorial practice. Those with an undergraduate degree in any discipline are eligible to apply to the program.
The program offers a 2-year Masters in Art Practices with specialisation in the following tracks.
ANIMATION AND VISUAL EFFECTS
The attributes of moving image are becoming difficult to define. The lines between live-action, animation and computer generated imagery are getting blurred. The course in Animation and Visual Effects encourages innovation in the field of manipulated moving image and finding one’s voice in either personal, artistic or industry environments.
CREATIVE DOCUMENTARY PRACTICE
This specialisation offers a space to engage with social, political and cultural contexts around us through the medium of film. The focus is on continuous making and learning how the techniques of filmmaking can be employed creatively to tell stories about real people places and events, through one’s own subjective viewpoint.
CURATORIAL PRACTICES - FILM, MEDIA AND VISUAL ARTS
This specialisation is designed for art professionals, artists, gallerists, theorists and aspiring curators to develop professional and academic excellence in the field of curating. The programme offers an interdisciplinary approach to curatorial practice that is rooted in the art, design and technology context of Srishti. While offering an international perspective on curating, the role of the curator and exhibition-making, the programme includes an in-depth exploration of the South Asian and South East Asian contexts.
PUBLIC PEDAGOGY AND ART PRACTICE
This specialisation brings together a rich set of public practices from- cultural activism, public art, experimental pedagogy, community based art, socially engaged art, public acts/ performances, to internet based public art. The course enables creative practitioners to educate, inspire, and catalyse social action.
