Abhishek Hazra is a visual artist whose close yet idiosyncratic study of the historiography of science has led him to explore various practices of knowledge production and dispersion. Hazra uses text, video, online interventions, performance and prints that often draw from speculative scenarios. Abhishek holds an MA in Art & Politics from Goldsmiths, University of London. He has also been the recipient of multiple awards including the prestigious 2011 Sanskriti Award for Visual Art. Abhishek has exhibited widely including Science Gallery, Dublin, Kunstmuseum Bern, Bose Pacia, New York, MAXXI Museum, Rome, Kiran Nadar Museum, Delhi, and OCAD, Toronto. He has been an artist-in-residence in various prominent residences including Gasworks, London, Art Omi, New York and SymbioticA, Perth. At Srishti, Abhishek teaches courses in Contemporary Art Practices and Experimental Media Arts.

Abhiyan Humane is an artist and scholar interested in perception, manifestation, and interpretation of information. He experiments with light, photosensitivity, and motion. His work explores emergent technologies and platforms that are increasingly relevant in a world where our interactions and experiences are mediated. Abhiyan’s research areas include communication and consumption patterns, altered realities of participation, spaces, and representations that are fun to explore, design and play with. How political movements foster, develop, and evolve has always fascinated him. He is interested in the production and consumption of art during social, cultural, and political movements. Abhiyan also curated an art gallery in Minneapolis. His academic background includes engineering, political communication, new media, and information science. He is one of the course leaders for Experimental Media Arts and co-ordinates the Post Graduate Programme in Network Cultures and Land and Habitat Studies.

Ahsam K R.
Ahsam is an architect & filmmaker. After graduating in Architecture from College of Engineering Trivandrum, she worked as an architect in Cochin. Always interested in films, she went to NID to learn filmmaking. She has worked as an Assistant Director in Chennai and Mumbai on tv commercials and feature length films. Ahsam was also part of various short films and collaborative film projects. She has worked with AOL as video editor, production coordinator and filmmaker. Currently, Ahsam is working on her own film, a documentary in progress. At Srishti, Ahsam teaches elementary film courses to undergraduates, which would include Camera, Video production, Scene construction, Fiction and Non-fiction film.

Aileen Blaney is an educator, writer and researcher with an M.Phil and Ph.D. in Film Studies from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Aileen’s film related publications have appeared in edited book collections and international peer-reviewed journals. Her research is currently focused on how the internet, digitization of culture and their increasing automation are impacting photo-based art practices and photography in the everyday. She is co-editor of a forthcoming book Photography in India in Light Years and Digital Times (forthcoming, 2017). Prior to joining Srishti, she worked at India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) in its arts practice and curatorial programmes. She was a creative producer (2010-12) for Dublin-based Forum on Migration and Communications and Pivotal Arts Studio (Dublin/London), where she contributed to socially engaged documentary arts, curatorial and public learning projects with a focus on migration. At Srishti, Aileen teaches in the PhD program, is Course Leader for the MA in Screen Studies and delivers ‘General Studies’ courses in film, photography and visual theory and criticism at undergraduate level.

Akanksha Chhajer is an artist-architect. After graduating from R.V College of Architecture, she worked as an architect in Bangalore. Her quest for acquiring new technical skills and developing her creative practices led her to do her MA in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking.
As an architect, she is keenly interested in built structures, their spatial narratives and tactility, in physical form and thought. She converts these observations into simple forms, shapes, colours and textures to develop prints. She works extensively combining various printmaking techniques of etchings, lithography and screen printing. Her work strives to evoke the sensory memories that complete the experience of a space beyond the visual. The energy of her work lies in its process and in-depth exploration and development of ideas.
She has been the recipient of many awards including the Rebecca Smith Memorial Award for printmaking in 2017. She has exhibited her work at the IPCNY in New York and Bankside Gallery in London. At Srishti, Akanksha teaches Visual Communication program to undergraduates.

Amitabh Kumar is a media practitioner. Trained as a painter from the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU Baroda, Amitabh has worked with the Sarai Media Lab, Delhi, where he researched and made comics, programmed events, designed print media and co-curated an experimental art space. Amitabh was on the curatorial team for City as Studio, Sarai Delhi, and curated an exhibition at the Projekt Kordegarda, Zacheta National Art Gallery, Warsaw. He is a founding member of the Pao Collective, an Indian comics ensemble, and is concerned with creating ecosystems for emerging comic book artists in India. Amitabh has had 2 solo exhibitions of his work and participated in group shows and art fairs. It is this engagement with contemporary art that made him aware of the lacuna between art and culture, and he began to address this gap by working in public spaces. He has been painting murals across the country for a few years now. Amitabh also facilitates processes around print and publication design and is currently working on his first music album. At Srishti, Amitabh extends the idea of culture generation by trying to blur the line between art and design. In 2015, he started the Art in Transit project with Arzu Mistry, which works extensively across pubic spaces in Bengaluru, focussing on the emerging Bengaluru Metro Rail Network.

Anand James Dev
Anand James Dev is a designer and design educator, with a broad range of interests including design entrepreneurship, visual communication, innovation, product design and films. His current area of practice is in the business model innovation space, helping organizations identify design process and strategic thinking as drivers for growth.
James has a Masters degree from IIT Bombay in design and more than fifteen years of proven knowledge in the fields of television, films, animation, illustration, interaction design, product design, design and management academics.
At Srishti, Anand James teaches strategy, design and brand leadership at the Masters-level as a course leader of M.Des. Strategic Design and Brand Leadership. James teaches across under graduate and post-graduate levels. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Design.

Anwesha Das is a writer and scholar. She is deeply interested in critical and theoretical writing, non-fiction and research. After completing a PhD in African literature from The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, she worked as an Assistant Professor in Chennai and Kolkata. Always interested in postcolonial literature, she went to Washington D.C. to present her research at Howard University. Indiana University Press, USA, published her interview of Nigerian author T. Obinkaram Echewa. In addition to this, Anwesha has published her critical writings in international peer-reviewed journals of repute. She has contributed a chapter in the book entitled Being and Becoming: Gender, Culture and Shifting Identity in Sub-Saharan Africa, Spears Media Press, Cameroon. She has presented research papers in national and international conferences. She is a member of the Igbo Studies Association, USA and MELUS/MELOW, India. At Srishti, Anwesha teaches literature, creative writing, and academic writing courses.

Aparna is a writer, advertising professional, literature coach, creative writing mentor and entrepreneur-publisher. She has worked as a Creative Director and Copywriter for 22 years in the advertising, design and digital industries. She has taught Media, Culture and Communication to post graduates at Symbiosis and published over 100 young authors across countries via her publishing outfit Timbuktoo. Aparna is a Kathalaya-certified storyteller and believes in the power of stories.
She relates academia to life, bringing life’s lessons to the classroom. This philosophy applies to any subject – and she has taught a variety – each of them integrated under the embrace of Humanities. Aparna is a post graduate in Literature and has studied Advertising in Sydney and London while gaining agency experience in both countries. She has also studied Screen Writing in Los Angeles.
She supports causes for the environment, the Arts and children’s education. Aparna has spearheaded independent projects such as Storylines – to encourage the archiving and sharing of family histories between generations. She has co-curated a project with Re-reeti for the Govt Museum, Bangalore to encourage more children to visit museums.

Arpita Bajpeyi is a public historian. After graduating in public history from Carleton University, (Canada) she co-founded the History Watch Podcast Series. She went on to found, and continues to co-direct, Staging Our Histories, an organisation that supports artists and filmmakers whose work engages with the past by taking history off ‘the page.’ More recently, Arpita has been exploring the conjunction of performance, performativity, and history – particularly through dance – in her own practice of public history. At Srishti, Arpita teaches General Studies and Creative Education courses to undergraduates, and is course leader for the MA in Public History and Heritage Interpretation. She also works at the Centre for Public History, located on campus.

Arnab Basu is a practicing artist and educator trained in alternate education systems. Arnab’s practice is predominantly rooted in Visual and Performance Art. As an educator he works with a combination of teaching philosophies and methods of Rabindranath Tagore, Rudolf Steiner and J. Krishnamurti. Born and brought up in Santiniketan, Arnab has had formal training in Indian classical and folk dance forms, Music, Theater and other visual art forms with a Bachelors and Masters degree in Fine Arts; specializing in Sculpture from Kala Bhavana of the Visvabharati University in Santiniketan, West Bengal. He has been a National scholarship holder from Ministry of Culture, Indian Government in the field of Sculpture from 2010 to 2012. Arnab is currently engaged in projects where he combines elements of Sculptural practice with Spatial Design, Architecture and other design principles with a strong focus on Ecological design and Earth works. At Srishti Arnab teaches courses on Ecological Design, Earth Art or Land Art, and various other Visual and Performing Art medias. He teaches across Foundation, Under Graduate and Postgraduate levels.

Arul is a contemporary artist with many regional, national and international exhibitions to his credit. His art practice across 5 solo exhibitions and endeavors in the field of art like workshops and seminars, have been reviewed by eminent critics and received extensive media coverage including CNN-IBN, A.I.R, Bangalore TV. Aruldevan is a graduate of The Ken School of Arts (1990). As a true and accomplished disciple, Arul acknowledged his obligation to his alma mater and returned to spend a decade there mentoring rookies towards transforming them into mavens. Conscious of the development of new technology in the artists’ medium, in 2000, he adapted to digital multimedia. Arul has spent two decades teaching across a multitude of organizations and international schools. At Srishti, Arul nurtures his passion to learn and practice. He teaches visual thinking tools. Arvind Venkatadri obtained a Master’s Degree in Electronics and Communication in 1987 from IIT Roorkee, India, where his dissertation was on adaptive equalization techniques for ISI channels. He spent 20 years doing electronic systems design at spaces such as the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the Centre for Development of Telematics (CDOT), Wipro Technologies and Texas Instruments, India – working on spread spectrum ranging systems for satellites, on GPS, atmospheric Radar, Line-of-sight radio and WCDMA systems. He then spent about 7 years working at Akshara Foundation, where he designed, set up and managed a network of 1400+ Libraries in the Government Primary Schools across Bangalore. Thereafter he was part of an educational start up incubated at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, at its N S Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL). He joined Srishti in 2014 and teaches courses on Design Thinking, Technology, Languages and Educational methods.

Arzu Mistry, is an educator, ecologist, visual artist, and dancer. Arzu maintains a high level of dedication and enthusiasm for the arts and ecology as mediums for pedagogy, advocacy, transformation, and intervention. Her practice centers on connecting educators, youth and families with place through interdisciplinary education using memory, story, play and art making through community art /ecology projects, livelihoods training, teacher professional development and educational research and practice. Arzu teaches at the Future of Learning and Arts and Passion Driven Learning Institutes at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She has a BFA from the California College of the Arts, and Ed.M from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Arzu is a Research Associate at the Center for Education Research Training and Development (CERTAD) and co-director of the Art in Transit Project at Srishti.

Asmita is a painter and a researcher. Her paintings and drawings sometimes become part of her research enquiry. She attained her BA and MA in experimental psychology from University of Calcutta, an MFA from Robert Gordon University, Scotland. She also has an advanced diploma in French Language from Alliance Francaise.
Asmita has held several shows and public projects in Scotland and India. After coming back to Indi, she has worked in an international educational organization Minds Abroad , facilitating cultural exchange between India, US, and China. Her research interest encompasses contemporary painting, contemporary drawing, theory-practice relation in art and design, and phenomenological aesthetics. Her recent peer-reviewed publications and conference participation include (amongst others): a full length article titled Exploring drawing as a generative act: Articulating thought processes in the context of interdisciplinary approaches to drawing pedagogy, published in Drawing: Research, Theory, Practice, Intellect, Bristol, UK and a conference presentation on materiality of drawing organized by University of York St John, UK.
In Srishti, she teaches theories of contemporary art and visual thinking. Her teaching is informed by her practice and through disciplinary knowledge of contemporary art-history, psychology, and phenomenological aesthetic.
Ashwathi Sharma is an engineer and an educator. After completing her masters in industrial electronics, she worked as a facilitator of design and technology in an IB school in Pune. She was the head of the department for product and digital design. At Srishti, she teaches across the foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She combines elements of form and structure with materials, motion, mathematics, technology and other principles with a strong focus on frugality and sustainability. She is also pursuing her second masters in design in education.

Athira is an apparel designer with interests in design, and various textile construction methods and techniques. She has proven her skills working with various textile majors like Arvind, USPA etc.
After graduating from NDA in apparel design, she enriched her knowledge and skills working with artisans engaged in traditional textile design techniques, like the craftsmen of Kutch, gaining knowledge about the adaptive requirements on textile designing. At Srishti, Athira is involved with undergraduate students, assisting them in improving their artistic skills, with special regard to textile and apparel designing.

Ayisha Abraham is a contemporary visual artist who studied painting at MSU, Baroda, and installation art at Rutgers University and the Whitney Program, New York, USA. Her ongoing project on amateur filmmakers has led her to collect 8mm home movies and work with found footage. Ayisha’s films ‘Straight 8’, ‘You are here’ and ‘I Saw a God Dance’ have been screened at venues across the world including the Directors' Fortnight Cannes and the Serpentine Gallery, London. Her installation work has been exhibited at international museums and galleries like the Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts, San Francisco and Devi Art Foundation, New Delhi. Ayisha has published her writing in ‘Mining the Home Movie’ (2006) and the journal, New Cinema (2014). Ayisha co-curated an exhibition with Alternative Law Forum for the World Information City conference, Bangalore. Since 2006 she has been a member of BAR 1, a Bangalore artists collective.
Ayisha is Dean of the School of Media, Arts and Sciences. She teaches courses in studio art and visual culture. Her interdisciplinary and eclectic approach to arts pedagogy has shaped the work of students interested in visual art. Ayisha co-founded 'Nazariya’ the film festival designed for Srishti students to engage with present day issues through cinema.

Babita Belliappa is an educator, educational filmmaker and art science enthusiast. She is a member of the Project Vision Research Collective, and the Center for Education, Research, Training, and Development (CERTAD).
Babita has an M.S. in Mass Communication & Public Relations and went back to college many years later to earn an Advanced Diploma from Srishti in Design in Education.
She is also a certified trainer of the ‘National School Reform Faculty’ from Bloomington, USA. Babita believes in using a multitude of visual and audio strategies and storytelling techniques to facilitate language learning.
She is passionate about using art and design approaches to navigate steep learning curves, in and out of school settings, through participatory approaches and networking with artists, scientists and other stakeholders in public spaces.
Babita also served on the committee of the Indian Censor Board to preview and award ratings for South Indian feature films.
She also works across schools and facilitates the teaching community to see interesting possibilities of designing learning experiences through studio, interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches.
At Srishti, she designs and teaches a varied mix of themes, ranging from making and coding for Android applications and GPS, to watershed management and Citizen Journalism, at the Foundation level.

Binu Bhaskaran is a practicing furniture designer and an architect. His interests lie in connecting education with craft, as well as emerging Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSMEs). Before Srishti, he has both taught and worked on various projects with the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. Binu is currently engaged with the bamboo craft community of Bihar and the North-Eastern states to enhance their product diversification and market reach. At Srishti, Binu teaches Design Process, Basic Furniture Design, Furniture Design & Prototyping and other related design modules. He has a Masters Degree in furniture design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and a Bachelor’s Degree in architecture from M.S. University, Vadodara.
In the last 12 years of his professional life, he has worked across an array of design projects, extending from architecture, space and furniture to the craft industry. At Srishti, Binu teaches furniture design and is also Course Leader of Industrial Art and Design Practice.

Biswamit is an author with many publications to his credit. They include Ozalid (1913 Press, 2010), Eirik’s Ocean (Yo-Yo Labs/Portable Press, 2016), Ancient Guest (HarperCollins, 2017), MC3 (Essay Press, 2018), Hubble Gardener (Spuyten Duyvil, 2018) and Erode (Spuyten Duyvil, 2018). In 2014, he guest-edited a dossier of Indian poetry in translation for Aufgabe13, published by Litmus Press. He is also the founder and editor of Anew Print, a small-press focused on translations from India and reissues.
He has an MFA in writing from Bard College, New York and is the founder of the Anew Writing Program. At Srishti, he teaches creative writing at the undergraduate level.

Boshudhara is a practicing artist. She studied painting at the Maharaja Sayajirao University in Baroda and has been exhibiting actively since graduating in 2008. She has had solo exhibitions of her work and participated in group shows and art fairs. She received the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant in 2013, the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Fine Arts Award in 2010 and The Nasreen Mohamaddi Foundation scholarship in 2005. In her practice as an artist, Boshudhara tries to bridge the gap between art and craft, drawing inspiration from a variety of sources and merging different techniques with conventions. At Srishti too, Boshudhara extends the idea of merging disciplines by trying to blur the line between art and design.

Carl Adam Lindquist
Carl Adam Lindquist is an artist, historian, and educator whose academic work has focused on philosophy, studio art, art history, and heritage studies. His work has also been informed by his international education in multiple areas of study. Carl worked in the field of public arts administration during college and graduate school, and earned his first Master's degree (Art History) from the University of Iowa. After completion of that degree, he became Director of the internationally recognized Project Art program at the University of Iowa Health Care, which was the nation's largest non-museum public art collection within a single architectural facility. His longstanding participation in international education led to employment as Coordinator for International Educational Initiatives at Arkansas State University while working toward a second Master's degree and Ph.D. in Heritage Studies. Here, he designed study abroad programming for American and international students, and advised students on matters related to international education and careers.

Chinar Shah is a photo-based artist. She is also a curator of a home gallery called 'Home Sweet Home'. She has been working as a co-editor for a publication on Indian Photography. Her work 'Silenced Ruptures' (2012) on the Gujarat riots has been part of a travelling memorial exhibition around India. Her recent work 'Aravanis' (2015) was shown at the Tate Liverpool and subsequently at festivals worldwide including the Birmingham Photo Festival and Art Bengaluru. Chinar has also been part of many international artist exchange programs. She studied Literature and Cultural Studies at English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad and later did her PGDP in Photography from NID, Ahmedabad. At Srishti, Chinar teaches courses related to photography. She is also a course leader for PGDP and a coordinator for the photography discipline.

Deepta is an ecological designer concerned with the environment and communities. She works on complex design projects to catalyze socio-ecological change in contentious landscapes. She is Director of the Design+Environment+Law Laboratory, a collaborative space where designers, lawyers, scientists and activists work together to challenge existing legal, environmental, social, economic and cultural frameworks, towards a resilient future. Deepta has knowledge, experience and strengths in environmental leadership, strategy and ecological planning. In the past she has worked on large-scale planning projects in China, Korea, Vietnam and Colombia, including the master plan for the Beijing Olympics 2008 site and the proposed Bogota Metro Planning Project.
Deepta is the Academic Dean of the Postgraduate Program at Srishti. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture (Manipal Institute of Technology, 1998), and a Master of City Planning (University of Pennsylvania, 2000). Her doctoral research in Art, Design and Interdisciplinary Studies is to challenge disciplinary frameworks around the development-environment conflict in the Western Ghats, India.

Dipnkar Khanna is a teacher of meditation and a mediation master. He is also a certified trainer of NLP (neuro-lingustic programming) under John Seymour Associates, Bristol, UK. His advent into contemplation and mindfulness began in 1986 at The Yoga Institute in Mumbai where he was part of the team that set up the Museum of Classical Yoga and developed the yoga syllabus for Navodaya Vidyalaya Schools across India.
He runs Upaaya, which is Srishti’s contemplative practice and research centre and The Garden of Samadhi Mind Centre, both of which are inspired by the Heart Advice of His Holiness, The Dalai Lama. Dipnkar is also part of the Wellness Team and CERTAD. In 2014, he produced ‘Mount of Excellence’ a documentary on The Tai Situpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival 2016.
In addition to M.Sc. in Applied Psychology from Annamalai University, Dipnkar has also incubated the Leadership and Behavioral (LaB) Process Practice at QAI Global Institute. He is the author of “Mind Warriors – Winning Strategies with NLP” published by Penguin.

Farhat Ara has a PhD in Science Education from Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (TIFR), Mumbai and a Master's degree in Zoology from Calcutta University. Her thesis focused on understanding students’, teachers’ and designers’ perceptions of design and developing design based activities for Indian middle school students. Her thesis has charted a new territory by focusing on Design which is relatively ignored at the elementary and middle school levels in the Indian context. She has received the TIFR Alumni Association- B.M. Udgaonkar Award for the Best thesis of the year, 2013-2014.
After receiving her doctorate, Farhat worked for a short period at RV Educational Consortium (Bangalore) as a facilitator with D.Ed. Teachers in a Pedagogical Content Knowledge Project where she was involved in the development of a source book for D.Ed teachers.
At Srishti, Farhat is a part of Center for Education Research Training and Development (CERTAD) and teaches courses related to technology education at the undergraduate level. She is also involved in teaching in the PhD programs.

Dr. Gautham Dayal studied at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata where he got a B.Stat (Hon.), and then got a doctorate in Mathematics from the Chennai Mathematical Institute.
He is interested in looking at 'making' as a way of empowering people and communities. He is interested in how 'making' traditions and modern fabrication technology meet and what these imply for a meaningful 'vocational' education.
He explores the role that 'making', 'play' and 'tinkering' play in building understanding. In this context, he is also interested in exploring how the collection of materials one normally works with can be extended to include computers (and other programmable objects).
Outside Srishti, he has taught in a variety of settings: in an international school, in a learning center for children from urban poor and in non-formal schools for rural and urban children. He is also passionate about working with wood, and spends much time both making wooden furniture and teaching woodwork. At Srishti, he teaches both the Professional and Technical Undergraduate Programs, and is a course leader for the Order and Chaos module in the School of Foundation and Preparatory Studies. Gautham is a part of Center for Education Research Training and Development (CERTAD).

Geeta is an Artist and has a Masters with a gold medal in Printmaking from M.S. University, Baroda. She has worked under national scholarship and a research Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in the field of Fine Arts. Her artistic practices include setting up of her printmaking studio and display of her works at various national and international print exhibitions. A course in Film Appreciation at FTII, Pune, has left a deep influence on her work that is often revolves around the common core of aesthetic experience of various art forms. Apart from her studies and practice in visual arts, she has performed in Marathi theatre, trained in Hindustani classical music.
Geeta has written a series of articles on masterpieces of world art for a widely read regional daily for public awareness. She believes that notions of art and design are rooted with the culture and the sensibilities one belongs to, people will start appreciating contemporary art and design if they get to read quality discourses, which would inspire them to discover and locate their experiences in the local culture and languages. At Srishti, Geeta is currently teaching form studies and printmaking under communication and textile design courses.

Geetanjali Sachdev is an art and design pedagogue and practitioner. She has been involved in framing interdisciplinary pedagogical frameworks for academic programs in art and design, at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her art and design practice includes working with paper and paper goods. At Srishti, her roles have included deanship of the post-graduate and advanced diploma programs, chairing admissions, and coordinating the foundation studies and core skills programs. Geetanjali is currently doing her PhD in Art & Design at Srishti through which she is exploring art and design pedagogies for plant representations. She teaches courses related to food, patterns, motifs and decorative street art.

Girish Chandrasekharan is a strategic thinker and branding practitioner. He is deeply interested in historical and cultural phenomenon, an interest sparked by over three decades of experience in the advertising industry.
His journey within the industry has taken him through leading agencies like Lowe Lintas, JWT, and McCann Erickson and he has worked for a multitude of brands, for companies like Hindustan Unilever, MRF Tyres, Britannia, Tata Teleservices, TTK Ltd etc. The experience on these brands, which have ranged from foods to tyres, and soaps to condoms, has given him the passionate belief that effective branding is the key to success, whether it is a product or even for an individual. He strongly believes that leadership and branding are synonymous and that at the core, branding is rooted in the culture within which it is located. To mine that culture, in which the brand operates and to excavate the insight that will empower the messaging with the necessary penetrative quality, is the basis of his philosophy of branding.
Girish’s other interests include history, politics, psychology and philosophy. Books and films on these subjects are some of his most precious possessions. Music and Yoga are the wellsprings from which he draws his inspiration.

Gururaja is an ecologist specialising in anuran systematics, behavioural and landscape ecology and bio-acoustics. He is trained in GIS and remote sensing, biostatistics, ecological modelling and research methodology. He has a Ph.D in Environmental Science from Kuvempu University. He completed his postdoc research at Centre for Ecological Sciences (CES), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on the influence of land use and land cover changes on amphibians. He then joined Centre for Infrastructure, Sustainable Transportation and Urban Planning (CiSTUP), IISc, as a research scientist and worked on urban ecological issues (blue and green spaces) and environmental impact assessments. Later, he worked as a Chief Scientist with Gubbi Labs LLP, where he is an adjunct fellow now. He is a strong proponent of 'citizen science' and started 'Frog Watch' programme on India Biodiversity Portal.
At Srishti he teaches theoretical framework and use of GIS and Remote Sensing in Public Space Design for Masters students. He teaches Complexity and Living Systems in Earth Education and Communication. He also teaches Technology and Biological Systems to Experimental Media Arts students.

Indira has a Ph.D. in history from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London (1993), an MPhil from the University of Pune (1985) and a Masters from Jadavpur University (1981). She was awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship in 1989. Earlier, a professor at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Indira left to dedicate herself to creating archives and founded Archival Resources for Contemporary History (ARCH), in Bangalore in 2007. Her book, The Frail Hero and Virile History (Oxford University Press, 1998), was awarded the Tagore Prize in 2001. She was awarded the New India Foundation Fellowship in 2006. Keenly interested in oral history, Indira is a founding member of the Oral History Association of India (OHAI) and currently President. She is also President of the International Oral History Association. At Srishti, Indira is the founding director of the Center for Public History. She teaches in the Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Ph.D. programs. She is also a Ph.D. guide approved by Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

Ishita Shah is a designer, historian & curator. After graduating in interior design from CEPT University, she worked as a spatial designer, research associate and design journalist in India. Always interested in theoretical writing and critical practices, she went to University College London for postgraduate education in History, Theory & Criticism. She has worked as an architectural archivist and oral historian at CEPT Archives in Ahmedabad. Along with setting up of the archival facility, she has co-curated and coordinated two public exhibitions, conducted sixteen oral histories, co-designed the digital library and worked closely with various local, national and international organizations. Ishita has also worked as a research assistant at RIBA (London), co-curator for the Site-Writing Project at UCL Cities Methodologies Exhibition 2013 (London), design researcher with SPADE India Research Cell (Mumbai) and editorial assistant at Design Innovation & Craft Resource Centre (Ahmedabad). She has published her writings in various national magazines and presented her work at national and international institutes, conferences and exhibitions.
At Srishti, Ishita teaches courses in design thinking, local practices, heritage management and creative critical practices. She is also the coordinator to the UNESO Chair at Srishti and facilitates related activities.

Jacob, a product designer by training, spent the first 25 years of his life transforming businesses through design. He now works at the intersection of Design, Business, Sustainability, Capital and Impact, to create impact enterprises.
He co-founded consulting companies Tessaract Design and Idiom Design, Dovetail Furniture in manufacturing, The Design Store in retailing and Spring Health Water India in BOP services. Jacob is a design pioneer in the organized retail sector having worked with the first wave of franchise retailers like Levi’s, Weekender, Titan etc. and going onto design retail businesses like Big Bazaar, Central, Brand Factory, Ezone, Hometown, Godrej Aadhaar etc. Jacob is CEO of Industree Foundation and leads the Impact Edge Lab at Srishti and the Creative Manufacturing Undergraduate Technical Program for Srishti Pune, while continuing to play a leadership role at Idiom. Jacob also advises several start-up companies.

After graduating from the University of Michigan with honors in 1997, Jackson devoted his work experience to realizing authentic social change and ecological justice. For two years, he served as a farming apprentice for the "Community Farm of Ann Arbor", providing 130 local families with healthy, vibrant, and ecological produce. Jackson is a certified permaculture designer, with specific experience in biodynamic farming techniques, community supported agriculture, and natural building. Following his work in sustainable agriculture, Jackson became a "Teach for America" corps member and served as the 7th grade science teacher and department head for a middle school in Oakland, CA. From 2001-2007, Jackson was involved in the dreaming, launching, and co-cultivating of Oakland Leaf, an arts and activism non-profit organization (www.oaklandleaf.org). Currently, Jackson is actively facilitating ecological design and natural building classes at Srishti and establishing an ecological design collective in Bangalore.
Junuka Deshpande is a practicing artist and filmmaker. As a film-student at the National Institute of Design, she developed a keen interest in Anthropology and since then is intrigued to observe people in their environments. Their stories push her to engage in the process of image making through drawing, films, photographs, writing and music. Her professional journey in the past ten years across forests, islands, cities and villages across the country has led her to question implicit notions of self and hierarchy embedded in creative-perceptive processes. In her practice, she is engaged in exploring methods and forms of recording, documenting, interpreting and understanding stories in an artistic, collaborative and just manner. Junuka is the author and illustrator of a children’s picture book, ‘Night’. She has spoken and written extensively about her experience of staying in Andaman and Nicobar Islands working with the Nicobarese community. At Srishti, Junuka teaches across Foundation and undergraduate levels.

Kartick Ghosh is a craft product designer, specializing in furniture, interior and product design. He completed his Masters in Craft Design from the Indian Institute of Craft & Design, Jaipur, and a postgraduate in Marketing and Sales Management from Magadh University. He also has a Diploma in Fine Arts (Painting) from Kolkata and has worked in various organizations all over India as a craft, product and furniture designer including Wheaton’s Design Pvt. Ltd, Bentwood Seating System Pvt.Ltd, Sidderthdas Productions Pvt. Ltd and National Center for Design and Product Development, New Delhi.
Kartick is passionate in working with various crafts, craft communities and clusters for craft design and innovation. He has organized and run several product design and development workshops all over India during his time with the National Centre for Design and Product Development, New Delhi. His continuous effort to bridge the gap between industrial product design and the craft design through the craft’s essence, techniques and aesthetic, using craft materials for the innovation and revival of dying craft.

Kavita Arvind is an illustrator and design educator and her practice dwells in the fuzzy margins of art and design. A graduate of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, with a specialization in Film and Video Communication, she works with diverse media, covering a range of issues of social and gender communication.
She began her career in 2000 with Sony Entertainment Television, Mumbai, where she worked as a promo producer, launching several successful shows and working backstage at live events.
She then moved on to the role of design educator at her alma mater, NID, where one of the key projects she worked on was with Handicap International, which spanned the entire spectrum of communication design, with products ranging from posters to radio programs to public service.
In 2008, Kavita founded Chidiya Udd, where she creates art and a range of handcrafted products. She works closely with writers, graphic designers and publishers for children’s literature.
She has showcased her work at the Art for Concern exhibition, held by the Concern India Foundation, where 75 emerging and established artists exhibited their work, and also at a solo art exhibition at the Alliance Francaise, Bangalore.

Keshava Malagi is a well-known, Sahitya Academy award-winning Kannada writer and translator who has worked in print media and publishing. While working in Orient Longman publishers, he has edited and published children and educational books. Malagi has extensively written on literature, education, culture, alternative politics and social development.
He believes that understanding the meaning of our world and life with a socially relevant and culturally sensitive content will create pathways and mobility for lesser opportunity communities. He is interested in understanding the processes of knowledge creation in marginalized communities; its political positions and transform those sensitive experiences into art forms, in particularly as new learning approaches.
Keshava Malagi was awarded twice by Karnataka Sahitya Academy for his creative writing and translations. He is a recipient of a senior fellowship by the government of India. Previously Malagi has worked with Prajavani, Times of India, MAYA, and Azim Premji Foundation.
Malagi currently engaged in co-editing of World Classics into Kannada and editing Kannada version of Asking, we walk: South as New political imaginary for Kuvempu Bhasha Bharathi Bengaluru. He is also writing a book in Kannada on Dialogue tradition in Indian culture, which will be published in 2017.
Areas of Interest: cultural practices of Dalits and Adivasi communities, the rebellious-spiritual literature of medieval India; modern Indian history, and post-modern Indian, African, Latin American literature.
Kiranmayi is a filmmaker and has authored a book for OUP (forthcoming) on early Indian playback singing. She has screened her documentaries at film festivals, most recently at Ethnografilm Festival-2014, Paris. Her feature film work includes costume designing for the National Award winning Grahanam (2004). Kiran has experience of working at film festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival (2001), and has extended her expertise and advice on film programming and jurying in India. Kiran holds an MA in English Literature (University of Madras), MFA in Film Production (York University, Toronto) and a PhD in Film Studies (University of Nottingham). She is trained in Indian classical vocal music and has published creative writing and translations including the Telugu poet Devulapalli Krishna Sastry’s poems, a compilation brought out by the Dravidian University. At Srishti, Kiran teaches across undergraduate and PhD programs in areas encompassing filmmaking and theory.

Kumar K J.
Kumar is a Textile Technologist and has over 2 decades of experience in the Industry. His range of expertise extends from research to manufacturing high end furnishings in the woven design. Kumar has taught textile courses at the NID, Ahmedabad, and has corporate exposure with Himatsingka Seide & Peter England Brand. His work is strongly industry-focused and at Srishti he teaches fibre and fabric development courses. His other interests include wearable technology. Kumar extends his competence in the area of weaving to the weaving studio at Srishti, where he mentors students and encourages them to try new materials and techniques, to push the envelope in reinterpreting this traditional art. He enjoys working with multi disciplinary teams of students and faculty, thereby expanding the scope of the overall project and outcomes.

Kumkum is a trained architect, industrial designer and graphic designer. Since 1984 her work has integrated the disciplines of graphic design, visual communication design and industrial design through projects in packaging design, branding and
identity design, marketing collateral design, web design, exhibition design, information design and publication design.
As the Dean of School of Design, Business and Technology, Kumkum has been actively involved in designing curriculum for Srishti’s undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Visual Communication Design and Strategic Branding. She is also part of the team to plan and set up Srishti’s off-site Undergraduate Technical Program in Graphic Arts and Design Practices. Kumkum teaches studios, workshops and projects across different schools & years of studies at Srishti while managing her own design practice at Kena Design. Kena Design was founded by Kumkum in 2007 and offers design services to small to mid-size companies and NGOs in India as well as in UK and USA.

As a teacher Lavanya is interested in the process of learning, how different people approach learning and how this process can be made visible to themselves. She has been working in different learning environments (structured as well as alternative schooling systems) and has tried to bring more intuitive hands on way of teaching ideas in math and physics.
Trained as an architect, she received her B Arch from the TVB School of Habitat Studies, New Delhi, and received a Gold Medal for her dissertation on “Syncretic processes in architecture”
Lavanya strives to create learning environments both in the classroom as well as outside. She has worked with students from different backgrounds and believes that learning can happen by mixing people of different ages in an ‘outside school’ situation, especially if there is a ‘making’ element to a place. Recently she has been working with teachers and older students trying to work this more intuitive way of learning in the hope of creating a curiosity of learning and possibly later teaching. At Srishti, Lavanya is currently working in Center for Education Research Training and Development (CERTAD) and teaches courses in the undergraduate program. She is a course leader for Play and Invent, Contextual Studies Program, FSP.

Madhuri Rao studied fine art at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath in Bangalore and the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland, specialising in painting. As an artist, Madhuri's practice expands into various intermedia practices that involve video and sound installations. Her focus is on areas of identity, memory and interpretation, and the relationship between the artist and the viewer that formulate through processes of perception and social interaction in various cultural environments. She has previously worked as an Assistant Curator for the National Gallery of Modern Art and the Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum. Madhuri teaches courses for undergraduates in Contemporary Art Practice and Experimental Media Arts.

Mahesh Bhat is a photographer and filmmaker. India and other parts of the subcontinent have been his canvas and in a career spanning over 3 decades, he has been commissioned by publications as varied as New York Times to Newsweek across 20 countries. His editorial assignments have ranged from South Indian weddings and daily life to conflict reporting and photojournalism/reportage. He has worked for several corporations such as Accenture, Boeing, The Brigade Group, Bosch, BP, HP, Homestudio.com, Indian Institute of Management, McKinsey, Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, Mindtree, Project Management Institute. His work cuts across genres, such as advertising, interiors and architecture, corporate, portraiture, documentaries. Mahesh has published several books, including UNSUNG – about people who have made extraordinary contributions to society and Bangalore/Bengaluru – In First Person Singular. His work has been exhibited in galleries and festivals in India, US and Europe. Mahesh is an active environmental activist. He continues to work on preserving a large grassland and scrub forest North of Bangalore.

Mamta Sagar is a poet, playwright, translator and academic. She has four collections of poems, four plays, an anthology of column writing, a collection of critical essays in Kannada and English on gender, language, literature and culture and a book on Slovenian-Kannada Literature Interactions to her credit. She has a PhD in Comparative Literature from Hyderabad Central University. Mamta has worked with Hyderabad Central University and Bangalore University where she has taught Comparative Literature, Translation Studies, Kannada Literature, Postcolonial and Cultural Studies. Her association with visual arts is as an art critic, contributor to artists’ catalogues and as a performance poet designing poetry installations, readings and performances. As a practicing poet she has collaborated poetry performances with artists, poets and musicians from different parts of the world. She is actively involved with international poetry translation projects like Literature Across Frontiers, Poets Translating Poets, Melding Voices etc. She has been curating KAAVYA SANJE the community poetry event performed in public spaces involving people from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. On invitation, Mamta has participated in poetry festivals and facilitated poetry workshops in India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, US, European, Southeast Asian and Latin American countries. At Srishti Mamta will engage with courses in Academic and Creative Writing.

Manasee is a Designer, Illustrator, Visual Artist, and is now an educator with Srishti for the last five years. With 13 years of design industry experience prior to this, she has worked with Titan, Timex, Madura Garments, Infosys and Rave Magazine. A lot of Manasee’s work involves learning on an everyday basis; she believes it is important to be a good learner to be a better creative practitioner. This belief, she carries into her practice as an educator too. She draws inspiration to her teaching from the aspects of everyday: from Art processes to every culturally relevant practice.
Her practice here at Srishti involves teaching a range of courses from Illustration, Typography, Printmaking, Book Art and Feminism, to Packaging and Branding at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. With these taxonomies, she is always trying to make a connect to context, hoping that the coming together of ideas and processes from them, will make her students look at the world and design in new ways.

Manjari Singh joined Srishti in early 2011 as the Coordinator for Center for Education Research Training and Development (CERTAD). She has a Ph.D in Educational Psychology with a specific focus on Learning, Cognition and Instruction from Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. She also has a Bachelor of Education from Annamalai University and a Masters' degree in Clinical Psychology from Bangalore University, India.
Manjari has been involved in educational research and practice within elementary-secondary schools and higher education. Her research work has been primarily qualitative and included ethnographic studies of teaching and learning. Her educational practice has included teaching and counselling students within K-12 system in India, teaching undergraduate students in the United States, mentoring and supervising pre-service teachers, as well as contributing to professional development workshops and programs for practicing teachers.
Manjari's focus is on fostering educational practices that are learner-centered, developmentally appropriate and stimulating and which promote gender equity and student empowerment. She is interested in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs and processes that foster quality learning among children enrolled in school or non-formal educational programs, and, in conducting programs and research related to teacher's professional learning and development.
Manjula Kandula is a scientist & technical communicator. After obtaining a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, she worked as science communicator before joining the software industry where she spent over fourteen years as a documentation specialist.
Manjula has presented several papers at conferences such as STC (Society for Technical Communication), TWIN (Technical Writers India Network), Hewlett Packard (India) Conference, and TC World.
At Srishti, Manjula teaches various aspects of technical communication, which includes topics ranging from structured writing to professional communication skills.

Manoj K Dangoria
Manoj K Dangoria is a practicing designer and educator trained in product & furniture design. Manoj’s practice is predominantly embedded in grass-root-level innovation and design development. As an educator, he works with a combination of teaching philosophies and methods of design and making. Born and brought up in Jaipur, Manoj has a post graduation specialization in product and furniture design, after graduate specialization in Applied Arts. He is also associated as a designer with several organizations, both in the private and the public sector, including DC Handicrafts, the Ministry of Textiles-Government of India, Ministry of Micro- Small & Medium Enterprises, and the Government of Rajasthan.
Manoj is currently engaged as course leader of the postgraduate program of Industrial Arts and Design Practices (IADP) in Srishti. He also facilitates units across the foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Areas of Interest: Live grassroots-level innovation projects, designing development projects aimed at increasing livelihood mostly in rural parts of the country using the lens of sustainability and varied cultures.
Marialaura Ghidini is a contemporary art curator and writer with international experience in producing exhibition projects reflecting on the intersection between the arts and technology. She was founder director of the web-based curatorial platform or-bits.com (2009-2015), and organised projects ranging from online and gallery exhibitions to site-specific interventions in public spaces, radio broadcasts and AiR programmes. With a background in the humanities, an MA in Critical Writing and Curatorial Practice (Chelsea College of Art and Design, London, UK) and a practice-based Ph.D in Curating After New Media (CRUMB at University of Sunderland, UK), her expertise lies in curatorial studies and contemporary art reflecting on the role of the technological.
At Srishti she brings her interdisciplinary and hybrid approach to practice and theory and her interest in working with different formats of artistic and curatorial production and display through using contexts of engagement beyond the gallery and the museum. Marialaura is course leader for Experimental Media Arts.

Mary Jacob Kuruvilla
Mary has a Bachelors in Architecture from University of Visveswaraya College of Engineering Bangalore. She has a wide range of experience in architectural and interior projects including residences, offices and resorts. Mary has also taught at Exterior & Interiors as senior faculty, in their various centers in Cochin, Bangalore and Calcutta, where she also developed their syllabus and courseware.
She joined Srishti as a faculty of Interior Design and is currently the Dean of The School of Law Environment and Planning (SLEP). At Srishti she leads the LeNS project (Learning Network on Sustainability Project). This is a EU funded project in collaboration with other design schools in Europe and Asia. She is also coordinating the LeNS India chapter. Mary has worked on various projects with students at Srishti, which includes Sustainable and Inclusive Design. She also facilitates spatial design courses for the Postgraduate Diploma students.

Medha Narayanan is a learning experience designer and innovator. Her diverse experiences range from education technology to policy, working across three continents. Medha started her foray into education with an education technology company, where she designed learning experiences leveraging multi-player gaming environments and peer-interaction. She has subsequently worked on Higher Education Policy with the Planning Commission of India; founded a nonprofit, which provided after-school sessions to children from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds; and consulted on product design and pedagogy for various education technology startups. Medha obtained her Masters in Technology, Innovation and Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education. While there, she worked with the MIT Media Labs’ ScratchED to develop implementation resources. As part of the CERTAD team at Srishti, Medha is working on PlaceTalks, PPDE (Professional Practice and Design in Education) and as faculty for other education and design programs.

Meena Vari is a curator and her practice is predominantly rooted in Visual and Performance Art. As an educator, she works with a combination of teaching philosophies and methods of understanding contemporary and new interventions of art, design, culture and society. Meena has formal training in Humanities, Art Education and Arts Management. She is a Chevening-Clore Fellow for the Clore - Creative Leadership in the Arts and a Fulbright Scholar for Arts Management. Meena is currently engaged in collaborative projects where she combines elements of artistic practice, academic training for graduate students of art and design, with a strong focus on new artistic practices that combine experimentation, imagination and development in technology and media. Meena is the Dean of the School of Media, Arts and Sciences, Dean of Contemporary Arts and Curatorial Practice and coordinator for the Center for Experimental Media Arts (CEMA).

Meera has a Masters in Visual Arts (Painting) from College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, Bangalore. She also studied Textile Design at Philadelphia University and has a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art (Sculpture) from the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. A visual Artist and textile designer, her expertise is in advanced screen-printing techniques for Textiles, Natural and synthetic dyeing, Shibori, Sculpture and Visual arts and her research interests lie in Resist dyeing; Rust dyeing and deconstructed screen-printing.
Meera facilitates inter-disciplinary projects and courses at Srishti. These include Tales from Malabar, a traveling museum with narratives from the Mapilla Muslim community; Beyond Sight, Sensorial and Tactile design interventions for the blind and partially sighted; Voicing Cultures: Frameworks and Paradigms exploring the contemporary interpretations of heritage sites and its impact in shaping economic individualism and shifting identities. Curam worked with BP Art Exchange in 2014-2015 to support a group of students from Srishti in their investigation to Frame the Unseen at Kochi-Muziris Biennale. The Srishti students collaborated with a peer group from Central St Martins in London.
Meera is currently one of the course leader for Industrial Arts and Design Practices.

Minakshi Singh has a Masters in Art and Media Practice from The University of Westminster, London, and Bachelors degree in Visual Art from the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parisath, Bangalore. She has worked with children from marginal communities as an Art and Life skills facilitator in Bangalore and as a creative leader at The Green School, London. She also worked as a research associate with the cultural team at National Institute of Design, Bangalore, on ‘Digital Hampi’ a DST funded project. Her role involved researching and looking at the lives of common as well as from the Vijaynagar Empire period, their trade, occupation, material culture, beliefs, rites and rituals, and living traditions. Minakshi has successfully curated several art exhibitions in Bangalore as well as exhibited her own paintings and installations at major Indian cities and in the UK. Before joining Srishti in 2015 she was working as gallery manager and curator with an art Gallery in Bangalore and as a Creative coordinator, fundraiser and volunteer with a medical NGO, Aarogya Seva.
She is currently part of the Information Arts and Information Design Practices IADP, Undergraduate Professional Program.

Mohan Seetharam is a geographer with a doctorate in geography specializing in human-environment geography and geographical information science. He has worked on a wide range of projects internationally, including on biodiversity conservation and planning in the Western Ghats of Karnataka, on urban vulnerability and water management in the southwestern United States, and on community-scale environmental land-use planning in the South Pacific islands of Samoa. At Srishti, Mohan teaches courses in public space design and in earth education.

Muniraj is a 3D Generalist and specialist in Modeling, Texturing & Lighting. He is an Autodesk Certified Instructor (ACI) for MAYA done in Singapore Autodesk Asia Pacific (APAC). Having Eight years of experience in the academic profession, he has worked in major animation institutes like MAAC & ZICA teaching Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, Zbrush, Realflow, V-Ray, Motionbuilder, Unity and other softwares. Prior to Srishti he was worked as a Sr. 3D Technical Head in ZICA Bangalore. At Srishti, Muniraj is full time faculty in Digital Media Arts.

Krishna is an architect, toy and game designer and a design manager. After graduating in Architecture, he joined NID to learn Toy and Game design. He worked as a Concept Developer and Senior Toy designer in Bangalore and Chennai, where he was involved in designing games, promotion campaigns and Creative kits or Do-It-Yourself Kits for children. He joined Northumbria University, UK, for Design Management, a post for which he worked as an educator and Design Manager.
At Srishti, Krishna engages with the final year students in their projects covering the areas of designing for special children, universal design, play and education.

Naga Nandini has trained in Industrial Product Design, her work in the last 25 years has included a variety of projects ranging from craft and livelihood to communication design. Much of it has been at the grassroots level and she feels that a large part of being a good designer is a willingness to do what it takes in any context, learning skills where necessary and developing an ability to be a part of and manage change effectively. Nandini likes working in real contexts, enjoys collaborative thinking and making, and feels that when students work in mixed groups with artisans and makers, the best work emerges. As a practitioner and teacher, Nandini remains firmly rooted to the context of our country, people and culture – who, she feels, have a unique way of being that is fascinating as well as exasperating and provides us with many complex problems as well as solutions, old knowledge as well as new insights. She is currently one of the course leaders for Industrial Arts and Design Practices, co-ordinator for the School of Design, Business and Technology and works in the Frugal Design Lab. She is also a member of the Board of Studies at Srishti.

Naini Arora is a visual artist working across various media. She has had formal training with a Bachelors and Masters degree in Fine Arts; specializing in Painting and Printmaking from MSU (Baroda). She is a doctoral student at CEH in IIIT Hyderabad. Her research revolves around the theory and practice of Visual Arts with a focus on photography. She is currently engaged in site-specific works that explore the subtle relations that binds entities to each other and how shift in spaces transform those relations. She combines various art forms with emphasis on ephemeral materials. Her recent exhibitions include ‘Retreats and Scopes’ curated by Anja Ellenberger at Schloss Agathenberg, Germany 2016, Site-specific installation ‘Svabhava’ for Hyderabad Literary Festival 2016, ‘Water’ curated by Neeta Omprakash at Gallery Gitanjali, Goa 2015, ‘Drawing 2014’ Seven years of Indian Drawing, curated by Prayag Shukla and Annapurna Garimella for Gallery Espace at IGNCA, New Delhi. She has been awarded an Artist’s residency from the Ministry of Culture, Hamburg 2016, the UGC JRF Fellowship Award 2014 and a scholarship from the Departments of Art and Culture, Ministry of Goa (2009-10). At Srishti, Naini teaches courses in Installation Art, Printmaking and various other Visual Art media. She teaches courses in Contemporary Art Practices (CAP) across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Narendra is visual media artist. Drawing inspiration from oriental philosophy and aesthetics, he locates his art practice in human centric enquiry of social construct and its vulnerabilities. He has been part of many critically acclaimed artistic engagements and exhibitions in India and abroad. There are many published literary works and essays in mainstream news medias and journals to his credit. Before joining Srishti, he has associated with National institute of Design, National School of Interior Design(Saurashtra University), Indira Gandhi Open University and corporate sector for 22 years. He did his Masters in art, design and communication from CEPT University, Ahmedabad.
Naveen Bagalkot is a researcher and teacher trained in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Interaction Design. He is trained as an architect, industrial designer, and holds a PhD in Interaction Design from the IT University of Copenhagen. At Srishti, Naveen’s research inquires and explores the intersection between digital technology and community health & wellbeing. In particular, Naveen takes a critical yet constructive stance through exploring alternative possibilities for localized, de-colonized and participatory design of self-tracking and data-driven digital-physical infrastructures for community care. Naveen’s inquiry is driven by the act of in-situ design and sketching performed in close collaboration with organizations working in community healthcare. Naveen also leads the bachelors and masters in Human-Centered Design at Srishti, where his focus has been to create an environment of learning through which the students can expand the horizon of their emerging practice as interaction designers towards impacting communities at a grass-root, localized level. Naveen is an active member of international and Indian HCI research communities volunteering as program and organizing committee member, and reviewer for international and national conferences. In particular he is excited to mentor and curate student research work within HCI & Interaction Design.

Neeraja D is a multidisciplinary artist who makes prints, sculpture, and site-specific installations that explore how language and architecture are structures that frame our understanding of who we are, and shape our association with space as a memory. Her interest in the apparent associations and involuntary disassociations of the spoken word and the formal structure of a written script enable her to negotiate the dominant narrative.
Neeraja graduated with an MFA in studio practice from Cornell University, where she received the Baskerville Award for Painting, and has exhibited in solo and group shows in San Francisco, New York City, and Ithaca. She is a late-age emerging artist who spent her early years working in the corporate world of public policy. At Srishti, Neeraja facilitates studio courses based on printmaking, photography, and sculpture.

Nidhi is an educator, author, creative practitioner and designer of learning. After doing her Bachelor’s in Business Management and an Honours Program in English Literature from Bangalore, she got her MA in Education with distinction from Oxford Brookes University (Oxford, UK).
Nidhi has been a teacher for 15 years and is passionate about designing engaging and immersive experiences for learners of all ages. She has taught Language Arts in Mallya Aditi International School, organized children’s poetry festivals and created an English curriculum to empower teachers in government schools for The Teacher Foundation. An education entrepreneur, Nidhi has founded and runs a learning studio The Brain Gym – Creativity in Education which focuses on Creative English programs and workshops.
Nidhi enjoys playing with words and has written a children’s book series to enrich vocabulary through stories and puzzles called 10on10WORD! and co-authored a social satire cartoon book series on urban India called The Crazy Desi Book.
At Srishti, Nidhi is currently the Co-ordinator of the Center for Education, Research, Training and Development (CERTAD) and is a facilitator on the foundation and undergraduate programs.

Nivas Somasundaram is a Modeling and Simulation Design Engineer with more than nine years of experience in various design and simulation projects. His practice is rooted mainly in engineering simulation for automotive and aerospace structural components. As an engineer, he works with different simulation projects and develops prototypes through virtual modeling. Nivas has had formal training in Computer Aided Design and Engineering (CAD/CAE) from Central Institute of Tool Design (CITD) with a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai, India. He has specialized in the modeling & simulation domain since 2007. Nivas is currently engaged in studio courses where he combines elements of modeling and simulation practices with technical drawing, detailing and other design principles with a strong focus on the industrial design practice.

Nivi Ann Monsy
Nivi Ann Monsy is an interior designer and educator. After graduating with a Masters in Interior Design from Manipal University, Dubai, she worked for many projects ranging from residential to commercial and retail spaces. Following this, she moved into academics, taking up the post of Interior Design Coordinator and Assistant Professor at the School of Design and Architecture, Manipal University, Dubai where she strove to encourage interactions between professionals in design firms and academia in order to improve studio efficiency. During her tenure at the university, Nivi also published a book titled “Geoffrey Bawa: A Conscious Perception”, based on the works of Sri Lanka’s most famous architect.
At Srishti, Nivi currently teaches Foundation, where she works with a combination of teaching methods that involve constructive thinking, exploration through hands on skills and inquiry driven sessions.

Padmini is an educator-researcher who locates her practice in trandisciplinary pedagogy; designing learning experiences and curriculums that draw upon principles of emergent design. She mentors educators for a reflective practice and personal mastery. Padmini has explored various pedagogies (slow, place based & story) in middle and high school in the process of developing and implementing innovative curriculum and nurtured a studio-lab approach in her classrooms. She has experience in designing and facilitating learning expeditions and her work with teachers and children has ranged from those in elite and mainstream schools to non-formal learning centres in under-served communities. Padmini has experience in diverse environments over 20 years beginning as a lecturer in Physics to cadets of the armed forces in an undergraduate programme at the National Defence Academy, to teaching and coordinating science and math curriculum in schools and mentoring teachers to become innovative practitioners. She holds a Masters degree in Physics and Bachelor of Education degree in science and math education. She is currently pursuing her doctoral research at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology.

Padmini Ray Murray
Padmini Ray Murray’s work is theoretically rigorous and practice-led, and inspired by conceiving of and creating new media and digital projects. She received her PhD in English literature from the University of Edinburgh (2008) where she also worked as a postgraduate researcher at The Centre for the History of the Book. Before joining Srishti, she was lecturer in publishing studies and digital media at the University of Stirling (2010-2014). She is currently Vice-Chair of Global Outlook:Digital Humanities, the Editor in Chief of the SHARP (Society for the History of Authorship, Reading and Publishing) newsletter, and Managing Editor of DHCommons. Padmini’s work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and edited collections across a range of disciplines, and she has received significant funding on several occasions to help develop her research.
She is the course leader for the MA in Digital Humanities as well as teaching on a range of different courses at Srishti.

Pandrang Row is a writer, brand strategist and media practitioner. After graduating with a Master’s in English Literature from Bombay University, Pandrang worked with several of India’s biggest advertising agencies as a copywriter and creative director creating brand-building campaigns for a variety of clients, both large and small. He led teams of over 100 people in using print, television, radio, outdoors, the Internet, as well as planning events and working on public relations campaigns.
Pandrang won over 200 small and large awards during his stint in advertising. He joined Srishti in 2012, where he teaches courses on facets of English Literature, advertising, brand strategy and brand design at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Parvatam Venkata Ramana
Ramana teaches in the Animation Department at Srishti, and has over 12 years of work experience in various genres of animation. He has been a fundamental force behind conceiving the award winning series "Little Krishna" and yet to be released feature film with the same title. During his tenure with Jadoo Works and Color Chips he worked on some prominent projects which include Animation for "Higgly Town Heroes", short film "Bombay Dogs", ad films for Kellogg's International, Reynolds and Green Mother. He joined Srishti in 2010 and has been instrumental in structuring the 2D animation and visual effects courses. Because of his strong individual style, he has become well-known in the field of concept development, character design and illustration for animation in India.
Pinak Banik is a visual artist, media practitioner and independent researcher. Trained as a sculptor from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan and FFA, MS University of Baroda, Pinak has worked around the discourses of Art, Culture and Power relations, where his research and engagements culminate into sculptures, invested surfaces, programmed events, virtual instructive spaces, designed print media, installations, research documentations etc. curating his own experimental art space. Pinak has participated in several curated group exhibitions, workshops, performance events and museum exhibitions. At Srishti, Pinak extends the idea of culture generation by trying to blur the line between art and design as a possibility with a particular emphasis on the peripheries of cultural history.

Pithamber R Polsani
Pithamber traversed diverse disciplines: philosophy, education, technology, management, literature, semiotics, media, psychoanalysis, art and Spanish language. These explorations have given him the capability to synthesize insights from multiple domains and connect hitherto unconnected things in a unique way to arrive at solutions to conceptual and practical problems. Prior to joining Srishti as faculty, Pithamber led learning Academies for Royal Bank of Scotland & Nokia Siemens Networks, and at Satyam Computer Services established a Virtual University. Before joining the corporate sector Pithamber taught at the University of Arizona, Bates College & Delhi University. Pithamber received his PhD (1997) from Purdue University, West Lafayette and MPhil & MA from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Some of Pithamber’s publications include, “The Image in a Fatal Kiss: Dalí, Lacan and the Paranoiac Representation”, Bucknell Review, 2001; “Like A Lizard That Junks its Tail in Distress: Homer Simpson is no Antigone”, The Symptom, 2003; “Use and Abuse of Learning Objects”, Journal of Digital Information, 2003; “Riding the Satellite to the Millennium”, C-Theory, 1998.

Pooja is a Visual artist with a background in Painting. As faculty member at Srishti, she navigates across the board of programs and disciplines applying her core of Visual Art to newer forms and contexts through an artistic methodology. Her theoretical interests are also wide, often inquiring the roots and fundamentals of art, history, storytelling and philosophy.
Before joining Srishti she taught as Art Faculty in IIIT-Hyderabad with their Center for Exact Humanities, where she is also currently a PhD research scholar. Her research interests lie in Philosophy of Art and Aesthetics and more specifically a formal ontological approach to the Compositional principles of Painting. She has also worked as Assistant Director with filmmaker and photographer Benoy K Behl in the years 2007-08 in the making of 2 series of documentary films about Indian art history: One series of 12 films on 'The Story of Buddhism'; and Another set of 2 films on the 'Cosmopolitan Nature of Ancient and Medieval India'.

Pooja Sagar is a writer and a busy member of the Srishti Writing Centre, CERTAD and the School of New Humanities and Design where she teaches Creative Writing, and General Studies. Born and raised in a small town in Kerala until early adulthood with letters to keep her company, she grew up being sensitive to words and imagined worlds. She pursued studies in English Literature for the love of reading and later taught at Sacred Heart’s College, Thevara before she joined Centre for Studies in Culture and Societies, Bangalore as a researcher. To fund her own studies, she started doing Writing Workshops with children. Through experimentation that was benefited by some serendipitous creative outbreaks, she began to develop her practice of teaching writing that is committed to fine tuning intuition and imagination. She trained under Project Vision to learn design tools and pedagogical processes. As a writer and a teacher of writing, Pooja is a keen observer of her world, both physical and political. She did a series of interviews with an eminent writer of Malayalam, which was published in leading magazines and later anthologized in his book,“Vaakkukalum Vasthukalum” (Words and Things, DC Books, 2012). After becoming a mother, when she is not teaching, she writes about gender, motherhood and bodies.

Prakrithy Pradeep is an Innovation & Experience Designer, with a particular interest in user research and human-centered design. After graduating with a Professional Diploma in Art & Design, and an Advanced Diploma in Innovation & Experience Designer (both from Srishti) she worked as a UX Research Associate, onsite at Google. Her current interests include exploring teaching methods for more interesting and practical learning. At Srishti, Prakrithy teaches Human Centered Design to undergraduates.

Preeta is an environmental lawyer with an interest in sustainable development and participatory governance. She has worked on environmental litigations before the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal. In addition, she has coordinated research projects on transboundary water governance and coastal area management. She is interested in policy processes, and has worked as a Parliamentary Research Assistant. Through her work, she looks at the interconnections of different practices and perspectives within the policy framework. She holds a B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore and has completed her LL.M. in Law and Development from the Azim Premji University, Bangalore.

Rachel is a service designer, brand strategist and user experience researcher. She has worked on projects with a systems thinking approach in fields like healthcare, waste and governance, mobility, IT, lighting, home appliances, brand strategy, experience and communication, etc..
Rachel has worked at Bosch, in the User Experience Studio and at Philips Design Studio India after her Masters program at Central Saint Martins, UAL. Prior to that, she worked at the ‘Design against Crime Research Lab’ (DESIS network), where her interest and involvement in service design thinking and social innovation were amplified.
An alumna of Srishti, she is inherently interested in people, behaviours, their motivations and what makes them tick and how services can be created that can positively impact people’s behaviour, businesses and environment leading to more sustainable futures.

Ranjani is an architect, urban designer and planner. After graduating with a Bachelors in Architecture from BMSCE Bangalore, she pursued her passion for sustainable architecture while working with heritage conservation in Ladakh and then in solar passive architecture in Auroville and Bangalore. With an active interest in urban research, she earned her Masters in Urbanism and Strategic Spatial Planning from the Katholieke Universiteit, Leuven. She has worked as a urban planner and researcher in Mumbai and collaborates with the Robert Bosch Centre at IISc for research in Smart Cities. At Srishti, Ranjani teaches at the School of Law, Environment and Planning.

Rashmi Sawhney is an academic, occasional writer and co-founder of the VisionMix network. Rashmi has been faculty at CTMP, Dublin, where she taught and supervised doctoral research on a practice-based PhD programme in ‘Cultural Studies and Social Documentary Practices’. She has curated a range of public programmes including film screenings and symposia in Dublin and was visiting faculty at Trinity College, while she lived there from 2006-12. Her research explores the production, circulation and exhibition of moving image cultures at the intersections of cinema, visual arts, and digital media in the South Asian context and she has a special interest in science fiction film and video. Rashmi has been teaching, doing research, and publishing since 2002, and prior to joining Srishti, was Associate Professor at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University and also briefly headed the Arts Practice and Curatorship programmes at India Foundation for the Arts. At Srishti, Rashmi leads the M.A. in Aesthetics and Visual Cultures. This is the first interdisciplinary postgraduate programme in India, focusing on Curatorial practices and film/art writing, in response to the cultural histories and ecologies of South Asia.

Ravi Mani has a M.Sc. Architecture, Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies from Centre for
Alternative Technology, Graduate School of the Environment (GSE) Wales, an M.B.A Finance from New York University, M.S Industrial and Systems Engineering, from Georgia Tech, Atlanta, and B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. As a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED-AP) he is a sustainable development consultant in the areas of environmentally responsible architecture and renewable energy solutions and likes to explore space, time and energy in a rhythmic order using Indian aesthetics that is conducive to well-being and comfort. He has over twenty years of management consulting and industry experience in North America, Europe and Asia in diverse industries – green building consulting services, supply chain management and just-in-time systems before joining Srishti in 2015. At Srishti, Ravi facilitates studios in sustainability studies for undergraduate students, where inspired by the principles of integral education (PG Diploma, IGNOU) he encourages them to produce self-directed learning outcomes in the design of lean and green business services, and systems and public space design. He is part-time faculty in the School of Design, Business and Technology and School of Law, Environment and Planning.

Ritu Sonalika is a Product Designer. After completing architecture from the TVB School of Habitat Studies, Delhi, she worked as an Architect at the Mozaic Design Combine in Goa. Ritu then moved on to pursue her Masters degree from IDC, IIT Bombay in Product Design. This is where she discovered her passion for toy design, design for education and working with natural materials. She has held the position of Educational Resource Designer at the Azim Premji Foundation. She later co-founded and partnered Design Circle, a design and production firm for furniture and lifestyle accessories. As a Design Educator at Srishti, she guides students in the Impact Edge Lab where the projects combine Business Strategy and Design Thinking to design businesses that seek to create social impact profitably. Ritu also teaches courses in Design Thinking, Systems Design at the undergraduate level.

Sai Krishna Mulpuru
Sai Krishna is an electronics engineer and researcher in visual perception and virtual reality. After finishing his engineering from National Institute of Technology, Warangal, and graduate studies in Imaging Science at Rochester Institute of Technology, he worked on visual and auditory perception in non-human primates, using eye tracking and single-unit electrophysiology at Vanderbilt University. Keen to work in India, he researched on diagnosing early onset Epilepsy at National Brain Research Center and designing games for stroke-rehabilitation at IIIT Hyderabad. As a hobby, he makes 360-degree travelogue films narrated through virtual reality. At Srishti, Sai teaches prototyping, modeling and simulations of behaviors and environments using various mediums like electronic circuits and virtual worlds.

Samhita is a writer, screenwriter and graphic novelist. She is the author and illustrator of The Mahabharata – A Child's View, and, in collaboration with Moyna Chitrakar, created the New York Times bestselling graphic novel Sita's Ramayana. Her third book, The Missing Queen, was published by Penguin and Zubaan. Samhita was a screen writer on the feature film Good Morning Karachi and worked as the head scriptwriter on The Defenders, a TV show in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Samhita has a Bachelor's Degree in Religion and Film Studies from Mount Holyoke College, and has worked as an assistant editor with the comic book publisher Amar Chitra Katha. She was the 2014 Writer-in-Residence at the FIND-India Europe Foundation for New Dialogues, and was awarded the 2015 FIND Foundation grant. Samhita was also a British Council-Charles Wallace India Trust Writing Fellow at the University of Kent in 2015. She used to write a regular column for The Hindu on women in myth and history, and her fourth book, a work of historical fiction set in the Sangam era, will be published this year.

Sandeep Ashwath has a PhD from the University of Surrey – UK and a Master’s Degree from the Royal College of Art – London. Before that, he studied at the National Institute of Design – Ahmedabad specialising in Animation Film Design. His doctoral study was an anthropological study of the life of myths in relation to sacredness in one of the older localities of Bengaluru. His research pursuits include an interest in the construction of sacredness in domestic spaces, the audience reception of animation texts and the relation between moving image and the transcendent. In his work as an animator, Sandeep initially engaged with traditional forms of Indian storytelling and performance with classical animation involving hand painted and paper cut-out techniques. His work then moved to exploring digital imagery, verse/text and minimalist drawn animation for telling stories effectively. At Srishti, Sandeep is the Head of Program for Digital Media Arts. He also teaches film appreciation, scripting for animation and has mentored several animation projects.

Sanjay Barnela is an environmental filmmaker with a career spanning over two decades, . An early and enduring passion for mountain climbing and trekking in the Himalayas lead Sanjay quite naturally to his choice of subject matter as a documentary filmmaker – the political interface between the environment and local communities, wildlife-human conflicts, conservation and livelihoods, customary rights of rural communities, practices of pastoral communities, and the political economy of water among others. With diversity – both cultural and environmental- remaining a core theme, Sanjay has expanded his cinematic subjects to include women leaders and women musicians across the Indian landscape. He was conferred the Prithvi Ratna award for environmental filmmaking in 2014 as recognition of his body of works.
Sanjukta is a passionate researcher. Her research expertise is in the area of consumer behavior and market intelligence through qualitative and quantitative techniques. She strongly believes in Peter Drucker’s philosophy that “what can be measured can be managed.” For last four years she has extensively working on eco efficient products and service promotion. Her research findings have been published in journals of national and international repute. She has submitted her doctoral thesis from Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur. Prior to that she did her MPhil (Marketing) from West Bengal University Of Technology.
Sanjukta has 15 years of experience, which includes research, academics and industry. She is currently associated as a faculty at Srishti and teaches Research Methods for undergraduate and postgraduate students. She is also working with Srishti Labs (Slabs) team to develop a segmentation model for “Middle Class Indian” which will provide necessary consumer insights to the designer while designing new product.

Sarathkumar is a Computer Engineer, has more than 14 years of experience in the 3D and Visual Effects. He was worked for PRASAD EFX a pioneer VFX company in India, as a LINE PRODUCER in their Stereoscopic division managing with a close eye on production for the clients like 20th Century Fox, Sony Image works, Stereo D, Technicolor, Gener 8 etc., for the Block buster Hollywood movies like Titanic 3D, Hoodwinked 3D, Abraham Lincoln Vampire 3D, Immortals, 300 Raise of an Empire, Jurassic Park 3D, 2012, Narnia, Cats and Dogs, Spartacus Blood and Sand, War of the world 3D, Monkey king 3D, Arriops, Priest, Saw VII etc., also handled some of the domestic movies like Shivaji 3D, Magadeera, Eega, Vishvaroopam, Sreeramarajyam, Raajanna, Godfather, Shailu, Raaz-3 3D, Haunted 3D etc.,. He has also managed major 3D projects in Architectural Visualization and Exhibition Stalls.

Satyajit Roy is an animator and an illustrator. He has a Masters degree in Animation and Design from the University of Sunderland. As a practitioner and teacher, Satyajit enjoys working with students from diverse backgrounds with different knowledge and skills, and feels that a multidisciplinary approach towards animation brings out distinctive and engaging pieces of artwork. At Srishti, Satyajit teaches various courses for pre production in animation and moving images for undergraduates. He is currently one of the course leaders for Digital Media Arts.

Shai Heredia is a filmmaker and curator. In 2003, she founded Experimenta India, the international festival for experimental cinema in India, which has become a significant forum for artists' film and video. Shai has curated experimental film programs at international film festivals and art venues, including the Berlinale, Germany and the Tate Modern, London. Her film 'I Am Micro' (2012) premiered at the Guggenheim Museum (NYC/Berlin) and has been screened at major international film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival and the Rotterdam International Film Festival amongst others. ‘I Am Micro’ has also won prestigious awards, including a National Award from the Government of India. Shai has been an arts grant maker with India Foundation for the Arts where she ran the Extending Arts Practice grant program. She studied Sociology at St. Xaviers College Mumbai and Documentary Film at Goldsmiths College, London. At Srishti, Shai teaches courses in film appreciation and experimental film practice. She is the Coordinator for the School of Media Arts & Sciences.

Shalini Goel is an apparel and accessories designer. After a postgraduate diploma in Leather Apparel Design and Technology from NIFT, Kolkata, she worked as a designer in the textile and leather industry. Always interested in artwork, she went to Banaras Hindu University (BHU) for a Postgraduate Degree in Painting. She has worked in the leather goods and accessories design department as an Associate Professor in NIFT, Raibarali, and an Associate Professor in G.D. Goenka University, Gurgaon and as a Senior Designer in Footwear Design & Development Institute, Noida. Shalini has also created design collections for luxury fashion goods and worked with different international brands like Etro, Accessories, Radley, Kenneth Cole, Wilsons, Old Navy, Fossil & Max. She was also felicitated with an award for the Best Design Collection for Most Innovative Leather Goods Products at NIFT, Kolkata, and Best Internship Presentation at NIFT, Kolkata. Shalini has also conducted workshops with Saras Fair, Delhi Trade Fairs and worked with several firms as a product developer, fashion designer, and senior designer in the textile and leather goods and accessories industries. Her artwork has been exhibited at Lalit Kala Academy, Kolkata & Theosophical Society in Varanasi.

Shalini is an environmental lawyer. After graduating in law from the National Law School of India University, she completed an LL.M and an MSc in Comparative Law and Economics from the International University College of Turin. She has practiced law in London and Shanghai while working at Norton Rose Fulbright LLP and was a Research Associate at the IUC. Shalini has received awards from the International Development Ethics Association and the International Association for the Study of Commons for her research and recently won a Glocal Micro-Grant from Radboud University, Nijmegen. Her current research focuses on adaptation, resilience, governance and the process of norm diffusion and localisation in India.

Sharath Chandra Ram (On leave)
Sharath Chandra Ram (Sharathchandra Ramakrishnan) graduated from the University of Edinburgh specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Interactive Virtual Environments. His research interests lie in the intersection of law, technology and society with a focus on Open Education (Open Science and Open Hardware), Open Spectrum, Citizen Science, ICT4D and Intellectual Property. As a licensed amateur radio broadcaster (callsign: VU3HPA), he is actively interested in communication policy research, radio astronomy, extends his media art practice as a transmission artist and has installed his work in several national and international avenues. He is also an international partner and co-organizer of the International Summit on Critical and Transformative Making held annually in Indonesia. He engages actively with the local open source and research community at the Centre for Internet and Society and organizes the annual NASA International Open Data Challenge. At Srishti Sharath teaches the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Information Arts and Information Design Practices Program at the School of Law, Environment and Planning (SLEP).

Shhaina Shahid Ali
Shhaina Shahid Ali is an educator trained in Visual Arts and the Theory of Knowledge with the International Baccalaureate Organization. Shhaina’s practice is predominantly rooted in Textile and Visual Arts. Shhaina has formal training in Textile Designing, History of Art and Human Science with a Master’s degree in Management. She has fourteen years of IBDP teaching experience and has been working as an Examiner for Theory of Knowledge and Visual Arts since 2007. She was one of the team members on the IBDP Creativity Action Service (CAS) Guide review team between 2011- 2013. As an educator, she has worked in India and overseas, her last posting being Moscow, Russia, where she was worked with Saudi Arabian Ministry of Education on their International Education project across Europe. She has recently joined Srishti and is currently teaching General Studies to Foundation students. Her course is on Ethics.

Shiuli is a design professional with experience of more than 7 years in crafts sector, furniture design, accessory design, capacity building, and design education. She completed her Masters from Indian Institute of Crafts and Design, Jaipur and has worked with Export Houses, Design Studios and Interior Design firm before beginning her career in design education. She believes education needs continuous evolution, and learning is a two way process.
Working at grassroots level, gave her an insight on the rich traditional repertoire of India, and the opportunities it has that is yet to be explored at various dimensions. Other than her varied study on crafts and practices of different sectors, some of her major work are on wood crafts, anchor and mentor for students in project involving Bamboo Crafts of Gujarat, mentoring students on different projects based on Crafts of Rajasthan, work on skill development programs. Prior to joining Srishti, she has been invited as an academician by IICD, NIFT Bangalore, and Banasthali Vidyapeeth.
She has also been an active volunteer for capacity building and women empowerment projects. Her work with Action Center for Transformation, has been featured in various newspapers, and in magazines like Creative Gaga, of Indian Origin.

Siddharth Mandavgane is an animation and visual effects artist with industry experience of over 10 years. Before doing his masters in visual effects from Bournemouth University, UK, he worked with well renowned studios like Crest Animation Studios, Pixion, Tata Elxsi - Visual computing Labs as a 3D artist / generalist. While in the UK, Siddharth worked as 3D artist for gaming and later as Render TD with Framestore - the Oscar wining visual effects studio in London. Across his career he has worked on popular TV animated shows like Arthur's Missing Pal, Piggley Winks, Casper; animation and VFX movies like Arjun - the warrior prince, Maha Yoddha Rama, Robocop, Jupiter Ascending, Guardians of the Galaxy, Edge of Tomorrow, Paddington Bear and many TV commercials. At Srishti Siddharth teaches courses in animation and visual effects. He focuses on imparting hands on animation skills like stop motion and mentors student animation projects towards optimum technological creativity.

Sonal Godhania is a researcher with an academic background in the field of Strategic Management in the fashion industry. Sonal’s practice is predominantly rooted in the garment and jewelry industry in India, Tanzania and UK. As an educator, she works with a combination of teaching philosophies and methods of practice, experience and the latest innovation in the given field. Born and brought up in Pune, Sonal has formal training in Business Management, Fashion Design and other art and craft. She has an MSc in Information System and Business Management and her PhD was in in Fast Fashion: The Dynamic Capabilities Underlying Project Management in the UK Fashion Industry (Small and Medium Enterprises) from the University of Bedfordshire (United Kingdom). At Srishti, Sonal is the coordinator for the PhD programmes and also teaches courses on Product, Service Systems Thinking and Business Fundamentals. She teaches across undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD levels.

Srijan Sandip Mandal
A historian by training and temperament, Srijan recently submitted his doctoral thesis, on the right to freedom of speech and expression in the Constitution of India, to the University of Hyderabad. He has presented his research both in India and abroad – at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies in Delhi, at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, and twice at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. In keeping with his passion for public history, at Srishti, he is part of the Centre for Public History, where he teaches public history and ethnography to postgraduate and doctoral students.

Srivi Kalyan is an artist, designer, educator and writer. She works at the fluid and exciting intersection of arts, media, education, design, environment and self-reflection. She has a Masters in Arts in Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education, Cambridge and a Masters in Fine Arts from Stella Maris College, Chennai. Srivi has authored and illustrated several books for children and adults and is an award winning writer and illustrator. She also writes on art and art education. She has worked for some of the leading educational/edutainment organizations designing cutting-edge books and media for children and young people on one end, and workshops, curriculum, teacher training modules, interdisciplinary design and delivery of curriculum on the other. Her work through the creation of educational media reaches millions of children across India through reprints of textbooks, and creative products. Srivi is the Founder-Director of Fooniferse Arts Pvt. Ltd. At Srishti, she encourages students to discover the heart of their own creativity. Some of the key areas she works with are Design for Children, Contemplation and Compassion, Teaching and Learning, Ecology, Aesthetics and Conservation and Creative Writing. Sudebi is a designer of learning. She is a graphic facilitator, published writer, critical instructional designer, reflective practitioner, creative documenter and a passionate singer. She designs learning, emphasizing on place-based, context-specific, people-centric, socially, environmentally and culturally relevant issues, while integrating multiple perspectives and aesthetics.
She has been engaged in the areas of social development, community media, oral traditions, collaborating with organizations and individuals globally, since the age of thirteen. She designs experience and narratives, makes people think and reflect and gives shape to people’s thoughts by making them visible. She brings in inquiry driven, visual, participatory design into her work. Her style of work is in embedding socio-political issues with a narrative approach into whatever she does, which she believes would lead to an understanding of the complexities of various systems through their inter-connectedness, resulting in catalyzing action by people.
She works at Center for Education Research Training and Development (CERTAD) at Srishti, with both students in the college as well as school students and teachers for their professional development. She works with children in urban slums, using story and place-based, context-driven, observation-led reflective design.

Sudhir Desai is a systems innovator, futurist and designer. He initially worked with the Public Sector in India as a systems engineer and designer, building control and automation systems for manufacturing and process industries. Later working in India and internationally as a consultant, entrepreneur and business leader, he engaged with enterprises in the for-profit and social sectors, driving strategic growth and impact initiatives through innovation and design. With a Masters in Studies of the Future, Sudhir is active in the global futurists community, with a focus on systemic innovation, building innovation capability, and bringing positive change in cities and the social sector.

Having been trained as an industrial designer, and some experience in the small and medium scale industry sector gives Sudipto a thorough grounding in the nuances of the industry. However, these have got re-discovered, re-defined and deconstructed throughout his career and few of the major players that shaped it were the craft and the income generation sector where product and industrial design as well as craft and developmental activism took on another meaning.
Meanwhile the background values and definitions of product, system and service design have kept surfacing and led to an amalgamation that had elements of academically defined design with a kind of journalistic curiosity and passion towards craft.
Sudipto has been teaching for over a decade with Srishti and exploring questions such as “what can be taught vs. what can be learnt” and “what is the mean between building autonomous capability and creating scaffolding” and “what is a design process in today’s vast art and design context”, “how can K-12 education have a rebirth in the D school”
Over the last few years he has set up and presently runs the frugal design lab that explores most of the above questions within the academic framework through courses and projects with students within the lab.

Sujata Ramesh Pudale
Sujata is a skilled programmer and educator with a proficiency in advanced programming languages. She has a Masters degree in Computer Engineering from Mumbai University. After graduation, she joined Department of Information Technology in Mumbai where she taught mobile computing, software testing, computer graphics and database management. Later, she worked as an assistant professor and project coordinator at PIIT, Mumbai and SAIT, Bangalore. She has over 10 years of experience in academics across a diverse population of traditional and nontraditional students, both in person and in an online environment. She is involved in mobile app development for Android and iOS platforms and is interested in game design and development using 2D and 3D game engines and tools for mobile devices. She has presented papers in national and international conferences and published research work in scientific journals. At Srishti, Sujata teaches technical courses at undergraduate level.

Swati Dandekar is a filmmaker with a keen interest in documenting and understanding the process of change. Her recent work, arising out of collaborations with economists and urban planners, is a series of film essays on practices of governance and democracy in India, and their impact on peoples, places and the environment. With a Masters in History and a Post Graduate Diploma in Communication Media, her work of 25 years spans television programming, educational video & radio, biopics & oral histories of scientists, and independent documentary films. As a founder member of Vikalp Bengaluru she has been actively involved in creating a documentary viewing culture in Bangalore city through regular film screenings. At Srishti, Swati brings together her interest in film and the humanities to enquire into various cultural & social practices and the human stories embedded within, through the language of image and sound. She is Head of Program for Film, and teaches courses in film and general studies.

Swati has been a part of Srishti since 1999 as faculty and Head of programme for the Department of textile design, where she has been responsible for teaching as well as curriculum development at the undergraduate level.
With an Undergraduate Diploma in Textiles, specialising in weaving, she went on to work with a State of the Art mill, Himatsingka Seide Ltd in Bangalore from 1987 to 1990. Following this she went to the National Institute of design, Ahmedabad to pursue her PG Diploma in Textile design. Her 24 years of work experience spans across a diverse range from working as a designer with leading brands like The Bombay Store, the designer Ritu Kumar and teaching at NIFT, Bangalore and Srishti. She has worked closely with crafts persons for design development in the traditional hand loom weaving styles of Orissa and West Bengal and with several other craft groups in North Karnataka as well as Kutch, Gujarat. She is interested in the area of Social design & works with students and rural artisans to help create sustainable livelihoods through craft practices.
Syed Gowhar Andrabi
Gowhar is a practicing graphic designer and lecturer. His 15 years of design industry experience includes print, identity, advertising, packaging, interactive, web, and exhibition design. He has worked with leading design agencies and publication houses in India, Middle East, and the UK with major international brands.
Gowhar holds design and art education degrees from the University of Hertfordshire - UK (MA Design), University of the West of Scotland (PGDE - Art Education) and is currently pursuing his doctorate at the University of Hertfordshire. In his research, Gowhar is creating a prototype visual language of religious similarities that aims to promote religious tolerance online among young adults. Gowhar is a member of the Design Research Society. He is also a scholar member of the Research into Practice group (R2P) of the University of Hertfordshire.
At Srishti, Gowhar teaches visual communication, advertising, and branding courses to UG and PG students.

Tapasya Thapa is an educator, researcher and occasional writer. After obtaining her Masters degree in English Literature from the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies (SLL & CS), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, she went on to complete her M. Phil in English Literature from the English and Foreign Languages University (formerly CIEFL), Hyderabad. Her M.Phil thesis explored the question of identity through the writings of the Ayamik Lekhan movement in Nepali literature.
Recently, Tapasya channels her keen interest in the ‘workings’ and ‘manifestations’ of South Asian history through explorations with Oral History/Histories. To augment these explorations, she attended the Winter School of Oral History at Srishti, in 2015. As an educator, she has taught both UG and PG courses at various colleges. At Srishti, Tapasya teaches Critical Thinking, Culture Studies and facilitates academic writing as part of the General Studies team.

Tulip Sinha is an industrial designer, maker, researcher and educator.
Trained as a product designer from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Tulip began her career in the area of Retail Experience design at the Future Group, Mumbai. She was involved in the design of consumer experiences through space design and merchandise presentation.
Equipped with consumer insights gained from this stint, Tulip set up her own design studio FolkUs Design Interventions to pursue her passion in indigenous crafts and cultural storytelling. She has since worked closely with various craft clusters, craft organizations and social enterprises across India in the capacity of a researcher, skill-trainer, designer and entrepreneur.
At Srishti, Tulip engages with the School of Foundation & Preparatory Studies as well as with units under Industrial Art & Design Practices. As an educator, her interests lie in the area of developing pedagogic tools, contents and methods that simplify the dissemination of creative intelligence and design skills.

Urvashi Jalali is a professional architect with experience in large-scale office, residential and commercial projects. She is also technically qualified in the domain of GIS and 'mapping' and worked for several years with an MNC GIS major. At her Architectural Design Studio, ‘The Urban Architecture Practice’ she works on sustainable traditional models of design, both at the individual scale and at the urban level. This cross-dimensional perspective is key to her understanding of the built environment and the evolutionary opportunities it presents. She is passionate about teaching and was earlier part of Architectural Design-an architectural school teaching Architectural Design. She is currently the course leader for the Undergraduate studies in Public Space Design program at the School of Law, Environment and Planning (SLEP).
Areas of interest: Sustainable Urban Development, Design Education and Energy Efficient Architecture.
Varshini completed her graduation in Industrial Design from D J Academy of Design, Coimbatore and a Masters (MSc) in Integrated Product Design from Brunel University, London.
What interests her is to try and find new ways of designing consumer products that are creative (for example, with ‘a surprise element’ or use of relevant ‘technology’); that which is utilitarian; that improve the quality of life and at the same time possess unique and innovative qualities. Her specializations include strategic design management and research, human factors, design creativity and aesthetic awareness, design innovation futures, computer aided design and manufacturing techniques and sustainable design. One of the very important projects she has worked on is the design of GE’s LED Light bulb for the Indian Market.
Varshini teaches Industrial Arts and Design practices, Design Process and sketching and paper furniture and furniture joineries and fixtures to the undergraduate students.

Vasanthi Mariadass is a Film Studies and Critical Theory researcher who specializes in visual essay, documentary, experimental, avante garde cinema, specifically by French-Swiss film director Jean-Luc Godard and the films and installations of German filmmaker Harun Farocki.
She completed her doctoral studies from Indiana University at Pennsylvania. Vasanthi collaborated with Prof. Daniel Fetzner, Offenburg University, Prof. Dr. Marion Mangalsdorf , Freiburg University and Prof. Gadagkar, Indian Institute of Science on an experimental and science-art interfacing project Buzz (2014) http://parasite.metaspace.de
More recently, she wrote an essay “To See With Your Ear” on Cathy Lane’s work Beam, at the satellite exhibition in Kochi Biennale (2014) which was published in Unbound (2016). She obtained a research residency at Gothenberg University to continue her research on Harun Faroki . She was a DAAD research fellow (2013) at Humboldt University, Berlin, to initiate her research on the works of Harun Farocki . Vasanthi was the coordinator (2005-2007) for the postgraduate English programme at St. Joseph’s College, Bengaluru. She was the project manager for the CIDA grant program (2001-2003) on sustainable energy, which was linked to women and development. She wrote an essay ‘Vagabondia: Archiving the Archive’ on Vagabondia by Isaac Julien, published in Unpacking Europe (2001). She was a Helena Rubenstein fellow at the Whitney Independent Study Program (1998), New York. At Srishti she teaches Film Studies and Critical Theory.

Vineeta is an User Experience Design and Strategy consultant. She has been instrumental in bringing strategic design thinking and problem solving to both global companies and local start-ups, helping them see and align with the ‘big-picture’ and improve experiences across their various customer touch-points.
She has a Masters in Industrial Design from the Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay and a Bachelors in Architecture from the College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar.
At Srishti, she along with her students, engage with the world through the lens of User experience and Service Design helping the world become more user- friendly.
Her core areas of interest are Cognitive Psychology and Persuasion, Service and Experience Design and, in Humanizing Technology.
Waseem is a Visual Communication Designer with twenty-five years of work experience. He has seven years of industry experience and has been working with Srishti for the past fourteen years. His primary focus areas are Print Production, Audio-Visual and Web Design. His expertise is in 2D & 3D, Editing & Compositing, Graphic Design software from Adobe, Autodesk, Corel Corporation, etc.
During his fourteen years at Srishti, Waseem has led various studios and workshops, and is also involved in many in-house projects, including the Srishti Graduate Show (Students Year Book & Exhibition Panels), Marketing Collaterals (Projects Booklet, Prospectus, Annual Reports, Media Advertising) in addition to Print Production and an active member of the Srishti Marketing & Web Team.

Yadu Rajiv is a game designer and developer, as well as a curator and evangelist for independent games. A maverick who designs games and game-like experiences, he also writes code and creates art for games. After studying English Literature, he went to NID, Bangalore for a degree in Design for Digital Experience. Yadu worked as a Senior User Experience Designer before joining Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, where he teaches User Experience Design, Game Design and Game Development.
In 2011, he co-founded Hashstash, where he designed and developed the multiple award-winning local multiplayer game, Circulets. Yadu is also a volunteer member who helps run the International Game Developers Association(IGDA) chapter in Bangalore. He helps organize activities like the Global Game Jam, local chapter meetups, Build Your Own Game(BYOG) jams etc for the NASSCOM Gaming Forum..

Yamini Temujin is a Graphic Designer/Visual Communicator. She began her career with Web and Multimedia and developed a passion for Print and worked with various large publishing/media houses in London, gaining specific extensive experience in the areas of Design for Print, pre-press, publishing and corporate brand design. With an MA in Design Futures, Goldsmiths College, University of London, BFA in Applied Art, College of Fine Arts, Bangalore University and 17 years post-qualified experience of international and domestic design experience, she has also worked with reputed architectural firms in the areas of corporate branding as Brand Manager/Custodian, thus enhancing her ability to work with scale, material and form. She currently practices graphic design and paints murals for private clients. At Srishti, Yamini is the course leader for the Undergraduate Program for Visual Communication and Strategic Branding. She combines her professional experience to bridge the gap between knowledge with practice in her teaching.
