Exhibition featuring Anders Sandell, Michelle Cherian and Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology
Bangalore
Two different artistic projects by the students of the Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology facilitated by the Finnish artist Anders Sandell and Michelle Cherian opened at the 1 Shanthi Road Studio in the City on 2nd April, 09 and 4th April, 09 respectively.
“Toymakersâ€, the project led by Anders Sandell, engaged with the conceptualization and design of a new range of toys that could engage the creativity and imagination of children afresh. The students on the project conducted a series of workshops with children of Class Two at the Mallya Aditi International School to develop concepts emerging from the children’s imaginations. The children put up their concepts as drawings which the Srishti students worked with for creating ideas for new toy concepts. The new concepts of toy design range from a giant crayon to a kick scooter that deposits trails of colors as it is ridden. There are also some new forms of large kinetic toys like swings and seesaws.
The “Part of I†exhibition led by Michelle Cherian consisted of installations, video and performance artwork by Srishti students. It explored ways in which storytelling can be used to generate artistic work. Students first created alter egos for themselves before going on to creating full identities, visualizations, and narratives for their alter egos. Some even went as far as becoming their alter ego character in their everyday life.
These artistic projects emerge from Srishti’s vision of international collaborations with the objective of providing art and design education in an environment of creativity and maximizing individual potential. Srishti’s inter-disciplinary approach helps promote self-initiated learning and independent thinking, while expanding perceptual perspectives and developing artistic vocabularies.
Over the years, Srishti has gained recognition as a provider of quality contemporary art and design education. Its mission is facilitated by its organizational structure – a “community of learners†consisting of both faculty and students.
